Rental Property Information
The City of Rockwood is taking steps to ensure that residential rental properties are safe and properly maintained.
City Council approved the rental ordinance on June 4th, 2025, that will require landlords to register their properties with the city and prohibit occupancy without a certificate of compliance issued by the city.
Rental documents can be found under permits and forms.
Vacant Property
The Building Department is now doing resale inspections and vacant property registrations for all residential properties.
The Building Department enforces the State of Michigan Building Codes and issues permits for new construction, repairs and alterations to existing structures, additions, swimming pools and electrical, plumbing, heating/air conditioning, sewer work, and zoning permits for sheds, fences, and concrete.
Building, Zoning, Plumbing, and Mechanical Inspections are performed Monday and Wednesday between 4:30PM-7:00PM.
Electrical inspections are performed on Wednesday between 4:00PM-7:00PM. Please contact the building department to schedule any inspections.
The Building Department also handles all paperwork for Signage, Zoning Board of Appeals, Planning Commission, and Site Plan Applications.
